About Duke
Duke is everything a Clydesdale should be — massive, gentle, and quietly confident. He arrived at Unhitched Ranch as a young gelding and has become one of the most beloved members of the herd over the years. At over 1,800 pounds, he moves with a surprising elegance that never fails to stop visitors in their tracks.
Duke has a natural affinity for people. He’s the first to the fence when he hears voices, the one who’ll rest his enormous head on your shoulder if you let him, and the unofficial welcome wagon for new horses joining the herd. His temperament makes him an ideal horse for demonstrations and ranch work alike.
At the Ranch
Duke has pulled wagons, worked shows, and served as a patient teacher for green horses learning their way. He knows his job and does it well — whether that’s pulling weight in the arena or simply standing steady while the farrier works. Draft horses like Duke are the reason people fall in love with the breed.
You’ll find him in the lower pasture most mornings, usually first in line at feeding time.
